Mike Bossence

The Durham Attack Volleyball Club (DA) announced Monday the appointment of professional coach Mike Bossence as its Technical Director.

Bossence, 31, is no stranger to Durham Attack. The 2021 Danish Volleyball Coach of the Year recipient and Danish Cup champion played his club volleyball with DA before embarking on a successful coaching career. This past season, Bossence was head coach for Hyogo Delfino in Japan and previously served as head coach and technical director for Vingäker Volleyball Club in Sweden.

“We are excited to welcome Mike back to the Durham Attack Family. Mike’s technical vision and expertise in modern coaching philosophies will help improve support to our coaches and athletes this season.”

A former setter and school Rookie of the Year for Durham College, Bossence served as an assistant coach for The Ohio State Buckeyes men’s volleyball program, focusing on player analysis and practice plans. He returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach with Durham College before embarking on his international professional coaching assignments.

The Technical Director is responsible to the Durham Attack Executive in providing assistance for the Club’s technical volleyball direction alongside the Vice-Presidents of Junior and Senior Teams. Key aspect of the role is ensuring technical compliance of all Club programming and assisting the Board of Directors with the guidance for all Club coaches and other volleyball technical staff. He will assist DA vice-presidents of junior and seniors programs in creating support systems for coaches, while evaluating coach deliverables.

“Returning to Durham Attack as technical director is a rewarding opportunity,” said Bossence. “Volleyball continues to flourish throughout the Region as was evident throughout the summer, watching coaches and players during camps and clinics. Working with the DA executive and coaches to improve the technical delivery of our sport to a growing number of athletes will cement our Club’s role as a leader in the game. I look forward to getting to work and giving back to the Club that has helped me love volleyball.”
