House League

House League

Attack coaches run one of the most comprehensive recreational programs in the province, with more than 800 players in a typical season. Our competitive athletes are the foundation of the program as they invest more than 1,000 hours each season to transfer their skills, knowledge and passion for the game to developing players. The recreational program includes both the youth house leagues and summer camps.

We continue to provide the OVA SPIKES program for players aged 6-12. The Volleyball Canada award-winning House League program combines skill development with game situations. Consistent with the long-term Canadian athlete development model LTAD, the Summer Camp program follows the same format, emphasizing fun and development over the competition at an early age level. Players are taught individual skills and opportunities to apply them to in-game situations.

Award-Winning House League Program

Most clubs focus only on competitive volleyball. But Durham Attack’s ultimate goal is to instill a love of the sport in as many of our youth as possible, and through that, build and sustain a highly competitive and successful club.  To this end, a House League program was started in 2001. The league is a key component of the “grassroots” program that has developed an extremely high calibre of volleyball at Durham Attack.  At their annual awards, Gala in 2005 Volleyball Canada awarded a special award to Durham Attack for their ground-breaking work in building a strong and thriving Volleyball House League.

No Experience Required

Boys and girls between the ages of 11-15 are taught the skills of volleyball and exposed to game situations. The coaching staff includes Durham Attack coaches and Durham Attack players, many of whom have played on Provincial and National championship teams. Balanced teams with a variety of skills and age levels are assembled for House League play. Players learn individual skills and perhaps, more importantly, the importance of playing as a team during the ten-week program.

Many of our House League players move on to play on our competitive teams. And some competitive players still play House League, for the fun and extra playing time.

House League also gives players from our competitive teams an opportunity to give back to the Club and to the community that has supported them. Expert instructions are provided by coaches and by our senior players who are among the best in the province.

House League (Boys & Girls) and Summer Camps (Boys & Girls)

The Girls House League program has grown to include more than 300 players each season. This year’s House League looks to be even bigger and better.  Our Summer Camps have both girl’s and boy’s components and we run a full slate of indoor and beach camps every July.
