ABOUT DURHAM ATTACK VOLLEYBALL CLUB
Celebrating its 32nd anniversary, Durham Attack Volleyball Club (DA) is the longest-running competitive and recreational volleyball club in Durham Region. Proud member of Ontario Volleyball and Volleyball Canada, DA manages more than 30 competitive youth volleyball teams annually including boys and girls programs from 11U through 18U. Additionally, DA coordinates extensive house league and camp programs for beginners and recreational players. DA develops coaches and athletes through the Volleyball Canada approved Long Term Athlete Development Model. Many DA alumni have represented Canada on the international volleyball stage and former coaches have been appointed to university, college, national, provincial and professional teams. DA Cares is the community mandate of the Club that teaches its members to give back to the community.

Durham Attack Objectives
● Identify, recruit, develop and promote athletes and coaches.
● Promote and enhance the development of youth through participation in the sport of volleyball by creating and maintaining an environment that develops character and promotes leadership, responsibility and accountability among all its members.
● Focus on accessibility, diversity and inclusion in house leagues and sitting volleyball programs, and in competitive programs from 11U to 15U, in order to showcase as many athletes as possible to our sport, while building a broad base of support.
● Provide the advanced technical, physical and mental training required to build 16U to 18U elite teams.
● Continue to evolve a quality volleyball program with continuous growth for athletes and coaches leading to participation at the provincial, college and university, national and international levels.
● Properly prepare our athletes for their post-Club volleyball careers.
● Involving athletes in the support of opportunities that give back to our community.
● Maintain the organizational, legal and financial framework required to support the Club in the pursuit of its goals and objectives.
DIRECTOR, LEARN 2 PLAY PROGRAM OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director, Learn 2 Play is an independent contractor who is responsible to the Durham Attack Executive in providing leadership for the Club’s Learn 2 Play volleyball direction alongside the Vice-President, Junior Teams (VPJT), Director of ECI and DA Technical Director.
● Ensure Volleyball Canada and its Long-Term Development (LTD) model is being implemented for all programming.
● Recruit, hire, train and evaluate all coaches associated with the program including leadership for secondary locations. All staff hired by the Contractor shall be approved by DA leadership (Board of Directors) and must comply with Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) coaching policies. This includes, but is not limited to: Code of Conduct; Safe Sport; Making Ethical Decisions.
● Make all necessary efforts to contract existing Club athletes or coaches for the purposes of fulfilling the coaching duties of this program.
● Create and amend curriculum for all lessons and ensure coaches are trained to deliver such programming.
● Create session schedules for participants and communicate the calendar in advance to the start of the season.
● Manage all deliverables related to delivering the program, including, but not limited to: equipment, T-shirts, awards, etc. Budget to be determined by the DA VPJT, DECI and DA Treasurer.
Position Requirements
● Experience coaching youth volleyball.
● A proven track record in the development of youth volleyball programs at the development level.
● Knowledge of the Volleyball Canada Long Term Development (LTD) Model.
● An understanding of the evolution of coaching principles with special focus on improved coaching philosophies, communication and instructing youth.
● An ability to think and plan strategically as part of a team, and effectively link house league planning with broader Club goals.
Knowledge and Experience
● Working knowledge of and support for the Volleyball Canada LTD in addition to Ontario Volleyball current player and coach development policies.
● A strong understanding of youth volleyball competition structure and how it relates to optimal player development.
● Knowledge of the Canadian volleyball landscape, and the challenges and opportunities it presents to grassroots player development.
● Experiencing creating practice plans and game schedules is considered an asset.
● Experience directly managing, mentoring and motivating a wide range of coaching personnel.
● Managing budgets and experience reporting is considered an asset.
Duties and Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
● Support the DA Technical Director, DA Director of ECI (DECI) and DA Vice-Presidents of Junior Teams (VPJT) in the development and implementation of the Club technical plan. ● Provide guidance to DA Directors on technical volleyball decisions that may impact policy, planning and personnel.
● Create the complete DA Learn 2 Play schedule for the 2024-25 season that complements the technical development plan for participants.
● Identify athletes and coaches for Select Team participation. Collaborate with DA Directors in the
coordination of the DA Select Team, including additional practices and competition. Technical Program – Coach Development
● Assist DA Technical Director, DECI and VPJT in the recruitment, development, and strengthening of the DA pool of coaches within recreational programs.
● Under the guidance of the DA Technical Director, provide technical feedback to DECI and VPJT regarding recreational coaching staff, decisions on coaches continuing with the Club and identifying potential individuals for further development along the coaching pathway. Technical Programs – Player Development
● Collaborate with the DA Technical Director, DA DECI and DA VPJT, to help drive the ongoing implementation of LTD principles into the DA Learn 2 Play program, including an enhanced training component, creating and maintaining a recreational curriculum, while aligning with the development pathway that transitions to the house league and competitive programs.
● Build on the Club’s existing development programs alongside the DA Technical Director, DECI and VPJT to deliver an effective curriculum to the whole Club.
Communications, Finance and Reporting
● Actively promote the house league vision and underlying philosophy to the Club’s varied stakeholders, including non-technical members.
● Maintain a strong customer-focused approach to working with the Club’s membership, ensuring effective communication with players, their parents, team coaches, and other Club stakeholders.
● Provide best practices to DECI and VPJT on program budget expenditures and revenue opportunities. No expenses shall be permitted without prior approval from the DA Executive.
● Complete a monthly report to the Club Executive to be submitted by VPJT each meeting.
● Other duties as may be assigned from time-to-time by the DA Executive.
