OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The role of the Board of Directors is to develop and administer the policies and operating procedures of the Durham Attack Volleyball Club. All decisions relating to communication, publicity, organization, fundraising, unresolved conduct issues and other operational areas are the responsibility of the Board.
Members of the Club Board of Directors are required to:
● Attend monthly meetings.
● Participate in Club initiatives.
● Support all Club Members and committees as required.
● Attend Club tournaments and events when available.
● Participate as required in any club matter.
Knowledge and Experience
● Ultimate attention to detail.
● Expert time management skills.
● Strong communication, leadership, and conflict management skills
● A minimum of three (3) years of experience with club volleyball or another organized sport.
● Strong technical knowledge of volleyball skill development and understanding of exemplary coaching practices.
● Understanding of Volleyball Canada’s LTD document and its applications to youth volleyball
● Knowledge of the Canadian volleyball landscape, and the challenges and opportunities it presents to grassroots player development.
Duties and Responsibilities
● Maintain open communication with all members of the Club;
● Arbitrate unresolved issues regarding members within their respective portfolio;
● Support coaches, players and parents within their age group;
● Communicate regularly with coaches to provide guidance and ensure adherence to Club policies, OVA regulations and Volleyball Canada coach pathway.
● Represent the Club at Regional, Provincial and National level meetings when required.
● Summer Training Program
○ Schedule, organize and lead any summer clinics in collaboration with Club coaches assigned for the upcoming season.
● University/College Liaison
○ Work with athletes and parents to help understand the post-secondary volleyball process, including recruitment, options and admission requirements to U SPORT, CCAA and NCAA programs.
● Coach Certification
○ In collaboration with the Secretary, maintain a file of all coaches and their National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) status.
○ Advise and assist coaches on upgrading certification.
○ Advise coaches of the OVA and Volleyball Canada (VC) coaching policies.
● Club Technical Director
○ Oversee the designated Club Technical Director (s)
● Coaching Clinics and Development
○ Work with the Technical Director, to ensure the curriculum follows Volleyball Canada Long Term Development Model and the Coaching Association of Canada.
○ Work with TD to plan and implement clinics.
○ Liaison with facilities, operations, and finance.
● Coach Recruitment and Mentorship
○ Solicit qualified coaches for the Club and support them in acquiring the necessary certification.
○ Collaborate with the Club Secretary to ensure all required certification is obtained to coach the desired age group.
○ Provide ongoing mentorship to all coaches in their age divisions by encouraging participation in OVA, Volleyball Canada and other accredited coaching clinics.
