OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The role of the Board of Directors is to develop and administer the policies and operating procedures of the Durham Attack Volleyball Club. All decisions relating to communication, publicity, organization, fundraising, unresolved conduct issues and other operational areas are the responsibility of the Board.
Members of the Club Board of Directors are required to:
● Attend monthly meetings.
● Participate in Club initiatives.
● Support all Club Members and committees as required.
● Attend Club tournaments and events when available.
● Participate as required in any club matter.
Knowledge and Experience
● Ultimate attention to detail.
● Expert time management skills.
● Strong communication, leadership, and conflict management skills
● A minimum of three (3) years of experience with club volleyball or another organized sport.
● Strong technical knowledge of volleyball skill development and understanding of exemplary coaching practices.
● Understanding of Volleyball Canada’s LTD document and its applications to youth volleyball
● Knowledge of the Canadian volleyball landscape, and the challenges and opportunities it presents to grassroots player development.
Duties and Responsibilities
Uphold the Durham Attack Constitution, By-laws and Governance
● General Oversight of the Club, including:
○ Oversee all programs offered by the club and, when required, consult with and offer required assistance to other members of the executive and coaching staff.
○ Support good Governance practices that align with ONCA, the OVA and VC
○ Liaise with all Club Stakeholders, OVA and Volleyball Canada as needed
● Disciple Issues – Code of Conduct/Discipline Policy
○ Minor Issues:
○ Communicate with involved parties and initiate appropriate disciplinary procedures when required.
○ Provide members of the executive with reports of any disciplinary issues and measures taken.
○ Major Issues:
○ Communicate with involved parties and investigate facts of the issue(s).
○ If required, convene, and potentially lead a disciplinary committee to investigate the issues and concerns.
○ Consult with members of the executive and/or the OVA when required.
○ Initiate and enforce disciplinary measures and communicate these with the affected parties. ○ Provide members of the executive with a report of the incident(s) and the disciplinary measures taken.
● Tryouts
○ Oversee the Club’s tryouts at the beginning of each season;
○ Ensure that the club tryouts are aligned with the Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) “Tryout Window Regulations”;
○ Ensure that athlete “signing” and “early signing” are aligned with the OVA “Tryout Window Regulations”;
○ Work with Director ECI, VPJP, VPSP and TD to support coaches when making selections for their teams
● Enhancement Team Oversight
○ Work with the Oversight Committee to ensure equitable sharing of resources and programming.
○ Create age-appropriate activities and programming that supports the club goals.
● Special Projects
○ Work and support other Executive members as needed to develop projects that connect with club goals.
○ Support parents/guardians in their understanding of the game and of their athletes
● AGM
● Meetings
○ Set agenda and chair Executive meetings.
○ Attend other meetings on behalf of the Club as required (ie. Region Four, OVA, Volleyball Canada, etc.).
● Club Information Package
○ Submit information regarding coaches and certification as required to the OVA.
