
DIRECTOR, SUMMER CAMP – OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director, Summer Camp is an independent contractor who is responsible to the Durham Attack Executive in providing leadership for the Clubβs 2025 Summer Camp alongside the Director ECI and DA Technical Director.
β Deliver programs with the safety of all participants as the top priority.
β Ensure Volleyball Canada and its Long-Term Development (LTD) model is being implemented for all programming.
β Recruit, hire, train and evaluate all counselors/coaches associated with the program. All staff hired by the Contractor shall comply with Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) coaching policies. This includes, but is not limited to: Code of Conduct; Safe Sport; Making Ethical Decisions. Coaches who are minors are exempt from certain requirements.
β Make all necessary efforts to hire existing Club athletes or coaches for the purposes of fulfilling the coaching duties of this program.
β Create curriculum for all lessons and ensure coaches are trained to deliver such programming.
β Provide the DA Board with a post-event report to enhance the program for future years.
Position Requirements
β Experience coaching youth volleyball.
β A proven track record in the development of youth volleyball programs at the development level.
β Knowledge of the Volleyball Canada Long Term Development (LTD) Model.
β An understanding of the evolution of coaching principles with special focus on improved coaching philosophies, communication and instructing youth.
β An ability to think and plan strategically as part of a team, and effectively link Camp planning with broader Club goals.
Knowledge and Experience
β Working knowledge of and support for the Volleyball Canada LTD in addition to Ontario Volleyball current player and coach development policies.
β A strong understanding of youth volleyball competition structure and how it relates to optimal player development.
β Knowledge of the Canadian volleyball landscape, and the challenges and opportunities it presents to grassroots player development.
β Experience creating practice plans and camp activities is considered an asset.
β Experience directly managing, mentoring and motivating a wide range of coaching personnel.
β Managing events and experience reporting is considered an asset.
Duties and Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
β Support the DA Director ECI (DECI), Technical Director (TD) and DA Vice-Presidents of Junior Teams (VPJT) in the development and implementation of the Club technical plan.
β Provide guidance to the DA DECI, TD, VPJT on technical volleyball decisions that may impact policy, planning and personnel.
β Create the complete DA Summer Camp schedule that complements the technical development plan for participants.
β Identify athletes and coaches for increased participation.
Technical Program – Coach Development
β Assist DA VPJST, DECI and TA in the recruitment, development, and strengthening of the DA pool of coaches within recreational programs.
β Under the guidance of the DA TD, provide technical feedback to DECI & VPJT regarding recreational coaching staff, decisions on coaches continuing with the Club and identifying potential individuals for further development along the coaching pathway.
Technical Programs – Player Development
β Collaborate with the DA TD, DECI and VPJT, to help drive the ongoing implementation of LTD principles into the DA Summer Camp, including an enhanced training component, creating and maintaining a recreational curriculum, while aligning with the development pathway that transitions to the competitive program.
β Build on the Clubβs existing development programs alongside the DA TD, DECI and VPJT to deliver an effective curriculum to the whole Club.
Communications, Finance and Reporting
β Actively promote the DA Summer Camp vision and underlying philosophy to the Clubβs varied stakeholders, including non-technical members.
β Maintain a strong customer-focused approach to working with the Clubβs membership, ensuring effective communication with players, parents, coaches, and other Club stakeholders.
β Provide best practices to DECI, VPJT on Camp budget expenditures and revenue opportunities. No expenses shall be permitted without prior approval from the DA Executive.Β
β Complete a post-event report to the Club Executive to be submitted by DECI & VPJT.
β Other duties may be assigned from time-to-time by the DA Executive.Β
