Kevin is a face that has been around the DA gyms for many years. He is an accomplished volleyball athlete in his own right having played and coached at Seneca College. In fact, Kevin continues to play and was a gold medal winner in the US Nationals in 2022. Kevin has also been an assistant coach with DA for a number of years and believes that coaching at the younger level needs to be fun, engaging with a large focus on the fundamental skills and game play. Many of our DA athletes will recognize Kevin as he is also a trainer at Team 12 and has worked with a number of our teams.

Catherine Bell is a high school educator with over 18 years of coaching and teaching expertise. As a parent, she has seen the success and commitment of Durham Attack to athletes and wants to give back and be part of the coaching team. Her belief that sport helps build character and her desire to develop the whole athlete align with the values at the core of Durham Attack. Catherine’s technical knowledge is paired with her desire to develop athletes with strong fundamentals as well as build their confidence as athletes.

Kira is returning to Durham Attack to coach our 12U team and we are excited to have her back. She is a secondary school teacher with the DDSB where she coaches volleyball athletes between the ages of 14 and 18. Kira has worked as a Head Coach and an Assistant Coach with DA at the 12-14U level as well as working as a coach with house league. She still plays volleyball herself and is eager to teach these young athletes the core skills they will need to be a successful lifelong volleyball athlete.

Kathryn is excited to be joining the Durham Attack Volleyball Club.  A former OVA and AAU player as well as coach with Toronto West, Kathryn is a volleyball veteran and is looking forward to sharing her knowledge with our young athletes. As a successful player, Kathryn brings a wealth of knowledge to the team.  As a former coach, she understands the need for inclusive, athlete centered experiences that allow athletes to grow and learn the game. We are so excited to have her bring her expertise to the club.

Madison Harvey is homegrown talent, a DA alumnus who won both the Scott Burrows Club Award and the Loyalty Award. In her playing days, Madison received many accolades and awards for her play and technical skills and was also a member of the Durham College Varsity team. She is passionate about volleyball and coaching and as a female coach understands the importance of female coaching and mentorship for young female athletes. Madison has been an Assistant Coach both during her playing days and last season, and is eager to make the jump to the first chair. She believes firmly in developing the fundamentals of volleyball while also developing their confidence to take risks and be willing to learn new things. By creating an environment that creates a sense of belonging, Madison believes that the athletes will be able to face challenges and success.

Stacy Carli is returning for her second year as a Head Coach with Durham Attack. A long-time member of the club as a parent, Assistant coach and Board Member, Stacy understands the importance of helping athletes develop not only their technical skills but also the social and mental skills required to play competitive sports. A long-time member of the Scarborough Solars Volleyball Club, Stacy understands the integral part sport can play in an athlete’s life and is dedicated to supporting them as they learn from their successes and grow from the challenges. Stacy speaks often about volleyball being a game of “errors” and the importance of developing the strength of character needed to move forward and on to the next point. Her athletes love her and are excited to play volleyball while competing and pushing themselves to new heights.

Dennis Sallans is returning as the Head Coach of Extreme with a plan to continue with the team’s success and growth. Dennis has been with the club for four years and his dedication to athlete development is evident in his work with athletes. The belief in developing life-long volleyball enthusiasts is at the core of the work he does. A teacher by trade, Dennis wants the athlete to continue learning in order to develop skills, be a good teammate, and continue to have fun during competition. He is excited to see athletes grow as they develop.

Jason Stanat has been a Durham Attack fixture for almost ten years coaching athletes in both the girl’s and boy’s programs from ages 12-18 and is returning as the Head Coach of Fierce for the 24-25 season. As a teacher with the DDSB and a community coach in not only volleyball but also lacrosse, Jason is passionate about developing youth through sport. With his attention to fundamentals, Jason supports athletes as they develop their physical literacy and technical skills. However, what is even more important is the way that Jason shares his love of sports with his athletes creating an inclusive environment where they are eager to learn, try new skills, and grow and learn Jason has also served on the DA Executive supporting the club through further growth and development, especially within the boy’s programs.

Anne Grover is returning as the Head Coach of Hydra. Anne brings a wealth of playing experience as a former Provincial, National and NCAA athlete. Anne also has extensive coaching experience having coached with DA, but also at the elementary school and NCAA level. Her extensive coaching experience has seen Anne coach athletes between the ages of 10-22. Regardless of their age, Anne develops core skills, volleyball knowledge and team dynamics to create strong teams that have achieved success at many levels. Under her leadership, Hydra has experienced great success, most recently winning a Provincial Bronze medal and the 14U Canadian National Championship (Richmond). Anne is excited to continue as the Head Coach and work to support athletes as they continue their volleyball journey. Her knowledge of the game is second to none and her ability to have athletes push themselves while supporting their teammates is her greatest strength.

Melissa has been a member of the DA coaching staff for many years, assuming both Head Coach and Assistant Coach roles, and is excited to be assuming the 15U Fury Head Coach role for the upcoming season. As an athlete, Melissa played her club career with Ganaraska Wolves, and her post secondary career with Niagara College. Melissa has been a Head Coach at the 12-14U level, and an Assistant Coach at the 15-18U level. During her coaching career, Melissa has been a part of successful coaching staffs achieving both Provincial and Nationals titles, with most recent accolades including the 14U 2023 National Championship (Halifax, NS) and 14U 2024 National Championship (Richmond, BC). While these successes are to be celebrated, Melissa touts her greatest coaching achievement as having been awarded the 2022 Volleyball Canada 14U National Fair Play Award. What makes Melissa special as a coach is her ability to create a safe and fun environment where athletes are challenged to take the risks required to learn and grow, both on and off the court. Ensuring that every athlete is valued and feels a sense of belonging is the foundation of Melissa’s coaching philosophy. The environment she creates in the gym embodies the epitome of “team”, and we are excited to have her back in the Head Coaching position for the 2024-2025 season.

Jeff is returning to Durham Attack this year as the Head Coach of Cosmos. He is no stranger to volleyball and coaching having played the game throughout high school and has experience coaching both volleyball and baseball. He is committed to growing the technical knowledge and skill of his athletes and developing their performance on the court, However, what is even more important to him is being part of the athlete journey and helping them develop and grow as better people on and off the court.

Carlos is no stranger to volleyball or Durham Attack. As a parent of an athlete graduating from DA, Carlos is eager to give back. He was an Assistant Coach with the 18u Talons last season but assumed the Head Coach role for a third of the season as the Head Coach recovered from surgery. Carlos understands the importance of relationship building in the role as head coach as well as the technical skills needed to play volleyball at the senior level. He is excited to share this with the Chaos athlete. As a player, Carlos played collegiate volleyball at the University of Colombia.  
Carlos has coached baseball as well as volleyball and feels that the coach has two roles: teacher and motivator. As a teaching coach, Carols strives to develop the technical ability while understanding the needs of each athlete in order to maximize their potential. As the motivator, Carlos strives to support each athlete and help them focus and succeed.

Dave is a new coach at Durham Attack, but not a new coach. A Principal with the DDSB, Dave has coached many school teams teaching them the fundamentals of volleyball which provides the framework for growth and success. He wants volleyball to be fun as his belief is that athletes learn about life from sport. He is excited to coach Supreme and see their growth and development and looks forward to a successful and rewarding season.

Robin Kidd will be taking on the Head Coach role with Crush. Entering his third year with DA, his dedication to developing athletes is evident to all who have worked with him. Robin has coached both male and female teams in his career and is a certified Development Coach. Robin has coached previously with Unity and the Scarborough Titans and has been a member of both the Regional and Team Ontario Summer Programs. Having just finished the season as the 18U Blaze coach, his understanding of the game at the senior level and the myriad of individual and team skills needed to play at this level as well as post collegiate, is exemplary. His commitment to developing and mentoring athletes is at the forefront of everything Robin does and he focuses his energy on continual growth and improvement. Robin continues to be active in the game himself playing both indoor and on the beach. This year, Robin is being honoured by the OVA with a Recognition of Achievement Award.

Kourtney’s volleyball resume is extensive. A graduate of Uxbridge Secondary school she wore the Tiger stripes. Her club career was played with the Stouffville Stingrays and her collegiate career as a member of Durham College. She began her coaching career at Durham College as an assistant, coaching there for 6 years. Kourtney has also been a 14u coach with the Team Ontario program. As a female mentor, Kourtney is able to share her volleyball journey and provide mentorship to athletes as they play through the good times and the bad times and plan for their success in the postsecondary game or as lifelong volleyball athletes and coaches. Her passion for the game is evident and we are so excited to have her sharing this love of the game with female athletes.Carlos has coached baseball as well as volleyball and feels that the coach has two roles: teacher and motivator. Anthony Hack has been coaching volleyball for over thirty years and we are excited to have him returning as the Head Coach of Explosion. He has had an extensive career as a high school coach and just completed his eleventh year with DA. Anthony has coached athletes from 12-18 and has achieved great success, winning medals, but more importantly in terms of athlete growth and development. Regardless of the age he is coaching, Anthony believes in having fun while maximizing the athlete’s potential. His commitment to meeting athletes where they are and supporting them as they develop skills is the key to his success.

Mike will be at the helm of Intensity again for the 2024-25 season. As a veteran DA coach, he has coached athletes form the ages 12-18 and understands what is required at each stage to be successful. He has had a storied career as an OUA athlete and a beach pro. Mike still competes at the masters level. Mike is able to support athletes he coaches in the development of their technical skills, but also in their understanding of the nuances of the game. Mike believes in growth as an individual as well as a team player. He pairs his technical knowledge with physical preparation and mental training to ensure every athlete is able to achieve their best. He has won the OVA’s Mike Bugarski Coaching Award for his excellence in coaching and this year is being honoured by the OVA with a Recognition of Achievement Award.

Brano has been a member of the Durham Attack coaching staff for over five years. As a player, Brano had a successful career professionally in Slovakia and as a coach he has assumed a number of assistant and head coach roles in his career. Brano’s coaching philosophy emphasizes team over everything else and believes that a “coach is there for their players”. His emphasis in developing skills in a fun environment and bonding as a team is key and has allowed his team to achieve success on the court. His technical knowledge is excellent and athletes learn and grow from his leadership.

We are very excited to announce that Hoi Leung will be assuming the Head Coach role with Blast this season. Hoi began his OVA coaching career with the boys program at Bronte Beach, winning a number of National Championships and developing many great players. Hoi has been a member of the OVA since 1996 coaching teams from 13u-18u achieving great success at every age, developing strong technical skills. He has been with Durham Attack as a coach and Technical Director since 2005. He has coached teams in both the boys and girls programs, as a member of the Team Ontario Regional Program, and Team Ontario Canada Game staff as well as in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) circuit with the University of Toronto Women’s Volleyball Team. Hoi has Provincial and National titles in his accolades and is acknowledged this year by the OVA as a member of the Hall of Fame – Team category for his role as a member of the 2005 Canada Games Gold medal coaching staff.

Kevin Leung is returning to Impact as the Head Coach after a very successful 2023-24 season!!! He is excited to be continuing with this team and is impressed with their performance, especially at Provincials and Nationals. He is a fan of volleyball and believes strongly in providing opportunities for young athletes to play, enjoy the game of volleyball and grow as an athlete and person. Kevin also has experience as a referee and a member of 9-man volleyball. When he is not on the court coaching volleyball, Kevin is likely on a baseball diamond where he is coaching or coordinating Challenger Baseball in Pickering.

Jeff Little is no stranger to volleyball. He played club volleyball with the Scarborough Solars and was an OUAA volleyball athlete with York University. He has coached numerous elementary school teams as a TDSB educator, was a member of the Scarborough Falcons coaching staff and most recently completed his inaugural year with DA as an Assistant Coach on the 18u Venom team. His desire as a coach is to create a fun environment that allows athletes to grow to their fullest potential and develop a lifelong passion for the game of volleyball.

Entering his 26th year as a coach with DA, Chris is excited to be working with Energy again. Although he has won numerous Provincial and National titles, Chris continues to derive the greatest pleasure in watching athletes achieve their goals, develop their skills and in time return to the court as a coach themselves. His passion for the game is excellent, but Chris also works tirelessly to develop the technical skills and game strategy awareness for the athletes he coaches. His talent for scouting and strategic game preparation is outstanding, and he finds great satisfaction in aiding his athletes as they enhance their grasp of the game.

Chris has coached numerous sports as an elementary teacher and has coached club athletes from the ages of 11-18. Volleyball coaching has opened the doors to many experiences including doing stats with Volleyball Canada, at the Pan Am Games and coordinating volleyball for the Invictus Games. Chris has most recently added officiating indoor and sitting volleyball to his resume.

We are so excited to have Clyde returning to Durham Attack!  Clyde has coached many teams in the boys program, with his last few years at the senior level. He has been a head coach with teams at the 15-18u level. His strong technical knowledge, commitment to mental preparation, and emphasis on coaching the whole athlete makes him an excellent choice. He understands what is needed to be successful at the 18u level and values the athletes he works with creating trust and authentic relationships. Clyde maintains contact with many of his former players as they continue to coach and mentor his new teams.

Zach Marks is returning to the Spitfires. He has worked hard to develop his skills in a short time and is eager to put his learning into practice. Zach played club with both Scarborough Titans and Durham Attack and is a graduate of Uxbridge Secondary School under the coaching of Tony Kiriakou. Zachary has coached at Madawaska and believes that the power of hard work, both on and off the court, is one of the most important lessons a volleyball coach can teach their athletes. Zach is excited to continue the success of the Spitfire team as they complete their last season in club volleyball.
