ABOUT DURHAM ATTACK VOLLEYBALL CLUB
Durham Attack Volleyball Club (DA) is the longest-running competitive and recreational volleyball club in Durham Region. Proud members of Ontario Volleyball and Volleyball Canada, DA manages approximately 30 competitive youth volleyball teams annually including boys and girls programs from 10U through 18U. Additionally, DA coordinates extensive clinics, house league and camp programs for beginners and recreational players. DA develops coaches and athletes through the Volleyball Canada approved Long Term Athlete Development Model. Many DA alumni have represented Canada on the international volleyball stage and former coaches have been appointed to university, college, national, provincial and professional teams. DA Cares is the community mandate of the Club that teaches its members to give back to the community.

Durham Attack Objectives
● Identify, recruit, develop and promote athletes and coaches.
● Promote and enhance the development of youth through participation in the sport of volleyball by creating and maintaining an environment that develops character and promotes leadership, responsibility and accountability among all its members.
● Focus on accessibility, diversity and inclusion in house leagues and sitting volleyball programs, and in competitive programs from 10U to 15U, in order to showcase as many athletes as possible to our sport, while building a broad base of support.
● Provide the advanced technical, physical and mental training required to build 16U to 18U elite teams.
● Continue to evolve a quality volleyball program with continuous growth for athletes and 1
coaches leading to participation at the provincial, college, university, national and international levels.
● Properly prepare our athletes for their post-Club volleyball careers.
● Involving athletes in the support of opportunities that give back to our community.
● Maintain the organizational, legal and financial framework required to support the Club in the pursuit of its goals and objectives.
HEAD COACH OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Head Coach (14-15U) is responsible to the Vice-President, Junior Program in providing leadership to one of the junior competitive (rep) teams of the Club. Key aspects of the role include managing the safety of team participants at all times, ensuring the technical compliance of the Volleyball Canada Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD), and creating a fun environment that promotes personal and volleyball growth. Coaches must strive to create a positive team climate where all athletes feel valued, respected, engaged and fully present in the process.
Position Requirements
● Time commitment to successfully deliver the team’s objectives including: planning and attending a minimum of two practices per week; tournament participation throughout Ontario; attendance at Ontario Championships, yearly and practice planning, meetings with athletes and parents, etc.
o June to September: Talent identification and Summer Re-signing Period
o September: Tryout Window
o October to April/May: Training and Competition Season
● Successful completion of Vulnerable Section Check or comparable verification as outlined by Ontario Volleyball.
● Obtain required courses and certification for compliance with Volleyball Canada, Ontario Volleyball and Coaches Association of Canada coaching regulations for the specific age group.
● Past experience coaching boys or girls volleyball is considered an asset, but not required.
● Knowledge of, or the desire to learn about the Volleyball Canada LTAD.
● An understanding of the evolution of coaching principles with special focus on modernized coaching philosophies and communication with athletes.
● An ability to think and plan strategically as part of a team, and effectively link technical planning with broader Club goals.
● Possesses leadership skills that align with modernized coaching philosophies, and experience having difficult conversations with stakeholders centering the athlete at the core of the solution.
Duties and Responsibilities
● Responsible for the coaching, management and coordination of the entire team.
● Leads the team through positive, active and open communication.
● Responsible for the effective selection, leadership, mentorship and evaluation of assistant coaches and other team personnel.
● Responsible for the recruitment of appropriately-skilled athletes, who promote Club values.
● Accountable for the development, delivery and evaluation of a Yearly Plan.
● In conjunction with the VP, Junior Teams, the DA Technical Director, coaching staff and team
Parent Rep, is responsible for orienting athletes and family members to the values and policies of the Club.
● Works with VP, Operations, DA Registrar and Parent Rep in competition and practice scheduling.
● Encourages athletes to maintain and develop good academic standing.
● Supports the DA Secretary in conducting interviews and player information for website promotion and social media participation.
● Supports Club initiatives such as DA Cares, community relations and the DA Banquet.
● Responsible to the Team Banker and DA Treasurer for ensuring a sound team operating budget that promotes accessibility and accountability.
● Attends Club meetings as required.
● Actively participates in professional development opportunities to evolve coaching techniques and ensure athletes are provided with a modernized curriculum that aligns with Ontario Volleyball and Volleyball Canada.
● Responsible for knowing and abiding by Volleyball Canada and Ontario Volleyball rules, regulations and ethical guidelines.
● Project a positive image of the athletes, team, and club at all times, both on and off the court.
● Support the DA VP, Junior Program and DA Technical Director, when requested, in the development and implementation of the Club technical plan.
● Provide on-going communication to the DA VP, Junior Program and DA Technical Director on technical volleyball decisions that may impact policy, planning and personnel.
● Other duties as required.

● Professional Development registration reimbursement (ie. NCCP fees, OVA courses).
● Age-specific OVA tournaments and OVA Championships expenses covered by the Club (ie. Hotel, etc.).
● Non-age-specific OVA and other exhibition tournament expenses covered by the players on the team, provided expenses are disclosed at the start of the season.
● Durham Attack Coach Mentorship Program: Less-experienced coaches are paired with veteran coaches within the Club.
● An honorarium will be provided at the conclusion of the season.
● Coach biography promoted on Club website.
● Active support for participation in Ontario Volleyball and Volleyball Canada coaching programs (ie. Team Ontario).
